Transformation in Kibara
About three years ago in a district called Kibara* the spiritual atmosphere couldn’t have been much worse.
In the middle of the night Muslim radicals invaded the community and went on a killing
spree. 200 Christians were slaughtered like animals for daring to claim any other religion
but Islam. Never before had the night seemed so dark.
Personal Transformation
Mrs. K was a leader in the female secret society at a very young age and continued for 24 years. When a church planter came to her village, he prayed for a young woman in labor pains. Mrs. K had spoken a curse over this woman so that she would die in labor. Because the church planter prayed, for the first time ever, Mrs. K's demonic powers were broken
Very Difficult People Becoming Christ Followers
One of the most dramatic results reported is the presence of more than 200 believers in one Unreached People Group where there were no believers prior to March 2005. Among the 200 believers, 60 are pursuing training as church planters
God Raising Up Surprising Leaders
In the villlege of Mile 91, an illiterate, single woman who sold palm oil answered a call to become a church planter in November 2005. Her pastor did not think that she could make the grade as a church planter so he asked her to go home and pray about her decision
What Transformation Looks Like
In recent months multiple Muslim communities have sent delegations asking for church planters to come to their areas because of the transformation they had observed in neighboring towns with new communities of believers in Jesus.
When church planters were asked what caused the Muslim communities to want churches they noted the following signs of transformation:
- Husbands no longer abuse their wives and children, but are beginning to treat them with love and respect.
- New Christians are beginning to share possessions and time to help others in their communities, something that is just not a social norm.
- Communal curses are being broken. For example, one village had a long history of ending pregnancy before full-term, until new Christian women began having healthy babies.
- Christ Followers are reaping better harvests than before after stopping the use of charms and fetishes in their fields and relying on prayer instead.
- New attitudes of humility are developing among Christ Followers. For example, chiefs and other leaders who would traditionally never do physical labor now join in with other Christians in building projects for the community.
- People who were possessive and stingy before coming to faith have now become generous.
- People who had terrible personal histories, and even evil intentions before encountering Jesus, are now praying for other people and God is answering those prayers.
- People who had never cooperated with each other began communal farming.
- Drunkards began having income because they were able to stop drinking.
- Some very violent people became gentle and kind.
